Rita has 25+ years of experience in the energy industry and has held positions as a Transmission Planning Engineer, and Transmission Business Developer. She has been the Project Manager on a number of key business projects including construction of a combined cycle gas generation facility in Bridgeport CT. While in Economic Development, she held leadership positions on a number of local and regional Boards. Rita has also had been the Director of Strategic Account Services with a team of account managers servicing 650 of UI’s largest commercial, industrial & municipal customers. Rita has also been the General Manager for GenConn Energy LLC, a joint venture partnership between United Illuminating and NRG Energy which was formed to develop, construct and operate fast start peaking generation for CT. In that role she lead the development & strategic planning of all regulatory rate proceedings, compliance filings, dockets, and other matters concerning ISO –NE and FERC. Rita

Rita currently is the Senior Director of Smart Grids Innovation with enterprise level responsibilities to promote innovation, demonstration programs and platform planning. Her team is responsible for strategy, design, implementation and performance of Smart Grids innovation processes, proposals and programs. She is also working to develop a culture of innovation, here in the US for Avangrid’s utilities in New York, Connecticut and Maine as well as globally.

Rita currently resides in Orange, CT with her husband, has 3 boys and attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. She also has a Master of Science in Marketing from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
