AVANGRID Helps Rebuild Power Grid for Hurricane-Damaged Puerto Rico

NYSSGC member AVANGRID, Inc., a diversified energy and utility company, is deploying a Tactical Power Restoration Team to help Puerto Rico, which experienced severe damage and ongoing widespread power outages from Hurricane Maria in September, 2017. Comprising employees from AVANGRID’s Northeast subsidiaries, the team specializes in the supervision of transmission and distribution system recovery. As of early November, 70% of Puerto Rico’s 3.4 million residents remained without power. U.S. federal and state agencies, including NYSSGC member the New York Power Authority (NYPA), are helping Puerto Rico rebuild its power grid, which was devastated by the hurricane. NYPA has called on investor-owned energy companies, including AVANGRID, to lead rebuilding efforts. For the AVANGRID press release, click here.
