Ellen Smith joined National Grid in September 2009 and serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the combined Electricity Distribution Operations and Generation and US Transmission businesses of National Grid USA. As COO, she is responsible for Construction, Network Operations, Operations and Maintenance, Distribution Asset Management, Operations Performance and Support. Ellen brings 25 years of experience in the energy industry gained through leadership roles at Hess Corporation, Pratt & Whitney, and GE Energy — most recently as Vice President of Refining Optimization & Planning at Hess. She began her career in the Projects Department at GE Energy Corporation as an electrical project engineer working on turnkey projects ranging from the Comerford high voltage direct current transmission station to large gas turbine power plant installations in Egypt.
