A Community Microgrid Grows in Brooklyn

There are about 160 microgrids in the U.S. currently, according to a report by GTM Research. One of them—a robust community effort—is being developed in Brooklyn, NY. A number of residents in the Gowanus and the Park Slope areas of the borough have come together to establish a solar-powered community microgrid that provides locally generated power security within the community. The Brooklyn Microgrid was profiled in a recent article on ScienceLine.org, which explains how the innovative approach to grid operations came about and the anticipated growing role of local microgrids in communities.
