The New York State Smart Grid Consortium is part of a team that was awarded $3 million overall from Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) to develop a Distribution System Operator Simulation Studio.

This award is one of the $125 million awarded by the Department of Energy’s (DOE) ARPA-E for cutting-edge energy technologies. These new projects are funded under ARPA-E’s OPEN 2015 program which serves as an open call to scientists and engineers for transformational technologies that display technical promise and commercial impact but are too early for private-sector investment.

The team, lead by ProsumerGrid, will develop a highly specialized and interactive software tool capable of simulating the operation of emerging Distribution System Operators (DSOs) at the physical, information, and market levels. The system will provide a number of urgently needed by currently unavailable simulation capabilities.

The Consortium will facilitate the involvement of key New York stakeholders in the development and early testing of this tool, and work closely with our counterparts in California as the project advances.
