The use of solar power in New York State (NYS) grew by more than 1,000 percent from December 2011 to 2017. In making the announcement, Governor Andrew Cuomo noted that solar power leveraged more than $2.8 million in private investment into NYS’ clean energy economy and created 12,000 jobs across the state. Alicia Barton, President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), an NYSSGC member organization, noted that, with the significant growth in solar, “New York is rapidly marching toward our commitment to meet 50 percent of statewide electricity needs with renewable energy by 2030.” Click here for the NYSERDA press release, which features a table highlighting solar power expansion in each NYS region from 2011-2017.
