New York housing is becoming more energy efficient with each new initiative put in place. The new NYC Building Operator Training Program offers maintenance staff education on how to reduce energy consumption. The program should help building cut costs up to 20 percent and will launch fully in January. Additionally, the state has secured nearly $100 million in “Green Bonds” to drive environmentally-friendly housing. The Green Bonds will fund four developments containing more than 640 green and affordable apartments for New York residents. These strategies should help to meet New York’s Clean Energy Standard, to have 50 percent of New York’s electricity come from renewable resources by 2030.
