The New Jersey Transit Procurement Dept. is planning a rollout of the NJ Transit Microgrid Distribution System. The project is a microgrid designed to provide highly reliable power to support a core segment of NJ Transit’s critical transportation services and infrastructure needs.
The traction power system portion will consist of a 104 MW natural gas power plant and transmission lines to traction power substations that electrify the tracks and operate controls on portions of the NJ Transit and Amtrak systems.
The distributed generation aspect of the project will provide power for several NJ Transit stations, bus maintenance garages and ferry facilities. The distributed generation solutions project can be constructed and function independent from the traction power system project and serves an independent transit purpose.
