NY’s Plan to Reward Distributed Energy Resources
The compensation of organizations who add clean electricity to the shared power grid is vital for maintaining an efficient and effective system. The New York Public Service Commission, a Consortium member, issued a long-awaited order to establish an interim pricing structure to encourage the evolution of distributed energy markets. Aligning with the Reforming the Energy Vision initiative, the order requires New York to market price for large energy resources, monitor net metering for small energy resources, transition credit for community solar, and value carbon’s social cost, among other points. Not only will the results have environmental value and be cost-efficient, but they also reward customers and developers for energy investment decisions and help pave the way for a solution to improve the market for distributed energy resources.
