Smart Grid Labs Focusing on Microgrid Testing, Survey Shows
According to recent results from a survey by the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP), microgrid testing has become a large focus at smart grid research labs. More than half of the 40 labs surveyed, including national, academic, utility, and industry labs, currently have microgrid test beds. The survey results also show the largest sources of energy used in microgrid testing, which include solar, battery storage, and electric vehicles. About 90 percent of survey respondents have actual physical equipment in their labs, and nearly 80 percent do some kind of virtual testing.
